Mei Shyuan (Shenny) Chiou

Mei Shyuan (Shenny) Chiou is an award-winning percussionist recognized for her excellence in solo, chamber, and orchestral performance. She was awarded second place in the inaugural International Classical Marimba Artist League Competition, where she also performed at the festival in Minnesota. Additionally, she earned first place in the "Percussion and Other Instruments" category at the Italy Percussive Arts Society Competition.

Chiou has performed extensively with leading percussion groups and orchestras, including the Dream Percussion Group, Taipei Percussion Group, Taichung City Symphony Orchestra, Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, and Wichita Symphony Orchestra...etc. Her performances have taken place at prominent venues such as Taichung Shan Hall, Kaohsiung Cultural Center Chih-Shan Hall, and numerous universities across Taiwan and US.
A Premier Artist with Marimba One, Chiou is also the co-founder of the Composite Duo, a unique collaboration with saxophonist Parker Fritz. Together, they champion six-mallet chamber music, bringing innovative repertoire to university audiences throughout the United States.
She have been giving guest artist recitals with Composite Duo and invited to present masterclasses as well as Day of Percussion at many universities across United States including; Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Western Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Ball State University, University of Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri State University, University of Kansas, Central Michigan University, Interlochen Arts Academy, Oakland University, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, Bowling Green State University, University of Central Florida, State University of New York at Fredonia, University of North Alabama, Pittsburg State University, Wichita State University…etc. As an artist in US, she have more universities booked from Fall 2025 until 2028 and she am excited to keep sharing six mallet technique, percussive perspective presentation and new music she have been working on with Parker Fritz.
Composite Duo, founded by percussionist Mei Shyuan Chiou and saxophonist Parker Fritz, is a dynamic collaboration focused on innovative projects that combine saxophone and more possibilities with percussion instrument of six mallet marimba music. Mei Shyuan and Parker have worked closely with each other, commissioning new music for six mallet marimba plus percussion instrument. Through their performances and educational outreach, Composite Duo continues to push the boundaries of percussion and chamber music, offering fresh perspectives on contemporary musical expression. Composite Duo has been invited to perform six mallet guest recitals together in US.
Since 2023, Composite Duo has been featured in performances and masterclasses as well as Day of Percussion at a wide range of institutions, including Michigan State University, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, Bowling Green State University, Ball State University, University of Kansas, Oakland University, University of North Alabama, Wyane State University, Wichita State University, Northwest Missouri State University, University of Central Missouri, SUNY Fredonia, Interlochen Arts Academy, University of Central Florida, and many more.
Their critically acclaimed work continues to gain momentum: in Fall 2025 through 2028, Chiou is scheduled for additional engagements nationwide, sharing her innovative six-mallet techniques and newly developed music works. Most recently, she was invited to present at the 2025 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), one of the world’s most renowned percussion gatherings, where she will showcase original compositions and collaborative pieces that highlight the evolving role of percussion in contemporary chamber music.
